Happy National Adoption Month! November is the time to bring awareness to the urgent need for adoptive families for children and youth in foster care. It is a time to honor the road that families travel to grow their families through adoption. It is also time to acknowledge the each member of the family triad; adoptee, birth parent, and adoptive parents.
The Children’s Bureau, an Office of the Administrative for Children & Families, states that National Adoption Month dates back to 1976. Through the years, it grew in popularity with the help of President Ronald Reagan and President Bill Clinton and became a national month-long initiative in 1995.
Everyone can be a part of National Adoption Month whether you are pursuing adoption, currently fostering, or just want to offer support. If you would like to explore ways you can do this, please read “43 Ways Everyone Can Support National Adoption Month”,(Nov 2018) at adoptionnetwork.com.
This relationship is reminiscent of the how we became a part of the Kingdom of God. We were separated from our Heavenly Father by sin to be lost forever. But, God made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ. We were chosen by Him and adopted into the family with Christ.
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. Ephesians 1:5 NLT
I have been adopted into the family of God and this fills me with so much joy and pride. God is a loving Father and He is overflowing with love for all of His children. He gives each of us a promise to provide for us and this is so reassuring.
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalm 73:26NLT In spite of the many challenges we face as we seek to grow our families, God is our strength and He is mine forever.
HOPE-Filled Thought: God promises to be my portion when I feel as though I don’t have enough and when I feel like I am not enough. He is committed to me and this is my forever family.
Prayer: Thank You Lord that you have given us an example of how to extend love to those who may be alone. Strengthen us to follow your example in our families and those you have given us to love. We receive your Spirit with joy and it is so. Amen.
