What you might not know about me is that I love, love, love makeup! I have a stash of products that includes over 50 lip glosses and lipsticks (don’t judge me). I find so much joy in these treats that all special requests made by husband, Rodney, are met with the same response, “That’ll cost you a tube of lip gloss!” I have all kinds of products ranging from drugstore to luxury items and all of them are my favorites. I find so much joy in playing with them that I sometimes just swatch colors for reason at all.  I climb up into my bed and examine which shades are similar and how different the finishes are. I rediscover old favorites and sometimes bid a few a sad farewell.

However, I’ve recently begun to explore foundation. It’s not a new product for me as I’ve been wearing one brand or another for many years. But, I’ve become more intrigued with the many options. Some offer light or sheer coverage, like a BB cream. Others are medium or full coverage for that full on beat. Depending on the desired look, I can don a natural skin-like finish or create a look that disguises every flaw. The intended goal is to enhance my skin’s appearance by evening out the skin tone and I thoroughly enjoy it.

I also enjoy the enhanced look with which I view of world as I apply my spiritual foundation. Spiritual foundation, just like in the makeup world, is the step used to create the base of your spiritual walk. It is applied to help a believer develop a beautiful Christian life. When used correctly, it covers our sins and blots out our imperfections. It can also even out our unevenness and emotional temperament. The Word of God, when applied to our lives, will help us to realize our identity in Christ if only we would apply it.

Some people shy away from the Word of God just like they shy away from makeup. They say things like, “It’s so unnatural” or “I don’t know how to apply it”. Many question the investment asking, “How much does that cost?”  Don’t let that stop you. It’s okay if reading God’s Word feels foreign. Trying something new often feels foreign. You will gain confidence and understanding as you keep at it. Try a more familiar version or translation if the King James Version leaves you with more questions than answers. The time you invest will quickly pay off as you begin to see its benefits. Some people find it so beneficial that they begin and end their day with scripture reading.

I invite you to discover the joy of being covered in the Word and by the Word. Where do I start? You can start with a reading plan on a Bible app like Bible by Life.Church. You can grab a Bible and write a scripture on a note card and place it on your bathroom mirror and add new ones every week. You could even make a scripture your screen saver on your phone or table. Reading the Word of God is an important step to a more beautiful you!

Hope-Filled Thought: I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalms 139:14

Prayer: Thank you Lord that I was created in your image. Speak to my heart as I read your Word. I give you permission to renew my mind and to make me a new creation in you and it is so. Amen.
